The 4Legs Community Sponsorship Program aims to  assist organisations within the local Brimbank Council area through donation. We are proud to announce that the latest recipient of the 4Legs Community Sponsorship Program is Duke Street Community House in Sunshine.

Duke Street Community House is a not for profit community organisation that delivers local, high quality, low cost programs and services to the community since 1973. Duke Street offers a range of educational courses along with a broad range of leisure programs at a low cost. The services and courses provided help to contribute to the wellbeing and collective wealth and health of the local community.

We spoke to Lana Bedford, Duke St Community House Manager about how the organisation will use our donation.

“The donation will be put towards purchasing a coffee cart for Duke Street. The coffee cart will be used to train local unemployed youth in basic barista skills and will aim to build their confidence and knowledge so they can gain work or transition to further education. The coffee cart will also be used for community festivals and events that are held at Duke Street.

“We are continually running community events. In November we are holding a fundraising trivia night to raise the rest of the funds we need for the coffee cart and in September we are hosting a community morning tea to celebrate Adult Learners week.”

4Legs is thrilled to have been able to contribute to the great work at Duke Street Community House. To find out more about the organisation and upcoming events please call 9311 9973 or visit at 27 Duke Street Sunshine, Vic 3020

How you can help

Duke Street have been working to create a technology and innovation space for the local Sunshine community. The Create, make SHINE program has been chosen for voting in the Victorian Government’s Pick My Project initiative.

Create, make, SHINE aims to integrate science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) into our community; the possibilities only limited by the imagination. It will will offer social, educational and recreational activities, giving everyone the opportunity to engage with 3D printers, coding, augmented reality programming, app design, virtual reality, etc.

Create, make, SHINE allows a culturally diverse municipality with many disadvantaged and disengaged people, exposure to the technology they need.
